Nespresso Pixie: A Beautiful Red Nespresso Machine

We’ve been on somewhat of a Nespresso streak lately. Having recently reviewed the Nespresso Inissia, we wanted to give other Nespresso makers a try. We were left impressed with the brew quality and convenience of the Inissia, but thought the grey color was a bit boring. So we decided to try a flashy red Nespresso machine– the Nespresso Pixie. Although we weren’t able to give the machine as thorough of a test as we wanted due to extenuating circumstances (explained later on), we were pleased with what we saw. Here’s our review. Bodum Travel Press Review: A French Press Travel Mug

When I make coffee, it’s often to take with me. I budget 10-15 minutes for coffee each morning. Usually I remember to bring it. Sometimes I forget it. The Bodum Travel Press is a portable French press and insulated travel mug that lets you brew coffee and take it with you. Though I’m generally skeptical of coffee gear that promises to do too many things, I decided to give it a try. Here’s my review. Disclaimer: Why I’m skeptical of French Press travel mugs Timing is everything with coffee. If grounds stay in contact with water too long, bitter flavors

Mr. Coffee BVMC-SJX33GT Coffee Maker Review

There’s a reason why the Mr. Coffee BVMC-SJX33GT is one of the best-selling coffee makers online: it gets the job done. It’s practically designed with minimal fuss, brews good-tasting coffee, and has all the essential programmable functions you’d expect from a coffee machine. The BVMC-SJX33GT won’t win any brewing competitions, but it’s not designed to. It’s a solid machine for home or small office use. Mr. Coffee BVMC-SJX33GT: Design and Features The Mr. Coffee 12-cup programmable coffee maker, as it also known, takes the classic home coffee maker and adds a few modern touches. The most notable ones are a

Bodum Bistro Blade Grinder: A French Press Companion

Many beginning coffee enthusiasts are attracted to electric blade coffee grinders because of their low price and ease of use. At less than $20, the Bodum Bistro blade coffee grinder is an inexpensive way to enjoy the benefits of freshly ground coffee. It’s also beautifully designed and compact. As we’ll see in this review, however, there are a few things you should keep in mind before buying it. The Bodum Bistro Blade and Burr Grinder Series To make my point, know that there are two versions of the Bodum Bistro coffee grinder: this blade model and a more expensive burr

Hario V60 Buono Kettle Review

Making pour-over coffee is one thing. Mastering the art of the pour is another. Pour-over coffee makers require not only the right temperature water and grind, but a steady and consistent pour technique. Pour too fast, and the coffee will taste under-extracted. Poor too slow, and the water will not be the right temperature. Poor unevenly, and some grounds will be over-extracted. Others will be under-extracted. The Hario V60 Buono is a water kettle designed with pour-over coffee (specifically the Hario V60) in mind. I’ve used this kettle with both my plastic and copper Hario V60s for quite some time.

Baratza Encore Grinder Review

Here’s a look at one rockstar of a grinder: The Baratza Encore. Beyond grinding your own coffee at home, improving your grind to make it more consistent is one of the first steps you can take toward making better coffee. There’s no point in investing in a high-end espresso machine or fancy pourover kit if you don’t have well-ground coffee. The Encore is a conical burr grinder well-known for the high quality grind it delivers at a very attractive price. I’ve owned the Encore for nearly two years. This review is my perspective on why burr grinders are so important,

Nespresso Inissia Review: An Entry-Level Espresso Machine

When the Nespresso Inissia went on sale recently, I knew I had to give it a try. As much as I love filter coffee, I don’t always feel like making it. Sometimes it nice to have an espresso machine that brews automatically, and I knew the Inissia would be perfect for guests. Here’s my review after a month of use. Nespresso Inissia Features The Inissia is an entry-level espresso maker in the Nespresso family. It brews espresso exclusively via proprietary Nespresso capsules, which you can buy through Nespresso, on Amazon, or in local stores. The machine also comes with a sample

Behmor Connected Brewer Review: A Coffee Maker with Alexa

When I bought my Alexa-enabled speaker, I knew a could do a lot more than control the lighting and order pizza. Why not ask Alexa to make coffee? There began my quest for an Alexa-enabled coffee maker. It didn’t take me long to find the Behmor Connected Brewer, an SCA-approved coffee maker controllable through both Alexa and the Behmor app. Introducing the Behmor Connected The Behmor Connected is a smarter version of the popular Brazen Plus coffee maker. The exterior and interior are mostly the same. The only major difference is the inclusion of Wi-Fi, which lets you connect Behmor to your

Hario V60 Copper Review: Is It Worth It?

The Hario V60 is a classic pour-over coffee maker from Japan. If you’ve ever ordered pourover coffee, chances are good it was brewed with one. Over the last year I’ve been brewing with a copper Hario V60 on an almost daily basis. I never thought about reviewing such a simple device until now. Hario V60 Metal vs. Ceramic Vs. Plastic Pourovers: Which Material is Best? The most basic Hario V60 is made of plastic. This is what I had been brewing with prior to receiving the copper model as a gift. A quick look online shows that Harios are available in an

Choosing the Best Coffee Grinder: The Ultimate Guide

The old adage of “value in, value out,” applies more so to coffee than most other aspects of life. You’re doing yourself no favors with that cheap electric  grinder you picked up on sale last year. There’s an unofficial rule that for every dollar you spend on an espresso machine, half that should go toward a coffee grinder. The best grinders put out a consistent grind across the very fine to coarse spectrum. Combined with freshly roasted beans, the end result is a coffee experience fit for a king. Yet many coffee drinkers are still using blade-based grinders that deliver an
